Okay. So I’m standing in line at the taco bar. I’m going to get two tacos with guacamole. I have four years of Spanish in high school under my belt, plus i used to work and play soccer with Mexicans. I begin pondering whether I should pronounce “guacamole” gringo or authentic style. I’m next up in line and decide to go authentic. I order the tacos and pronounce “guacamole” flawlessly. Not overdone but perfect pronunciation, at least to my ears. The woman’s eyes at the register narrow as she looks at me and asks, “guacamole?”

So here’s the question, is it better to pronounce guacamole gringo style? Or am I just stupid for even thinking about this?
