It is true, death is the warrior’s best friend.
There is no telling whether or not the next breath will be the last.
The palpable sensation that death is guaranteed and coming at any moment is a source of inspiration. Instead of succumbing to hollow wastings of time or wallowing in self-pity, a warrior who has become familiar with impermanence focuses single-pointedly on what is truly important and fulfilling, overcoming all hardships. Frivolous pursuits and petty concerns fall away in the unprecedented imminence of the present moment.
The sparkling freshness and vibrance of being as a conscious being is enough in itself. From that vantage point, there is nothing left to accomplish and the warrior of truth engages in activities to benefit all with no concern of what the outcome may be. A true warrior does not destroy, but guards what is sacred and wholesome with unbending intent.
